To bring our Purpose to life, ALDI’s new approach to sustainability focuses our efforts where we can meaningfully contribute to positive outcomes across climate, nature, and people, recognising that each is closely interconnected. We want to use our business as a Force for Good – this means investing in initiatives that drive meaningful change and support the transformation of the food system.
Force for Good is our new global sustainability strategy. It marks the next chapter of our sustainability journey and raises our level of ambition. The strategy focuses on supporting to transform the food system through selected initiatives in climate action, nature regeneration, healthier products, and strengthening the livelihoods of producers and workers. It builds on our work on climate action in our operations, packaging optimisation, waste reduction, animal welfare, human rights and responsible sourcing.
Our supply chains are broad, covering many products and regions. That means we need to prioritise the ingredients and raw materials where our action can best accelerate progress for climate, nature, and people. Our focus is on areas of action in the selected supply chains of coffee, cocoa, fruit and vegetables, dairy, and beef. At the same time, we intend to continue strengthening standards in other key supply chains, such as fish and seafood.
With this focused approach, we apply the same discipline to our sustainability initiatives as we do to cost. We direct our resources to where we identify the greatest potential to create positive impact.
With our Force for Good strategy, we have introduced a new set of ambitious targets across climate, nature and people, recognising that progress in each depends on progress across all. We plan to use interconnected actions that allow us to simultaneously address diverse sustainability challenges from multiple angles, such as enhancing our sourcing practices, investing in projects on farms and in priority supply sheds, collaborating with others, and advocating for policy changes.
We aim to advance our climate approach through sourcing, collaboration and advocacy to support emissions reductions across our supply chains.
To regenerate natural resources, we intend to focus on responsible sourcing, initiatives and partnerships tailored to land restoration and water replenishment, and advocacy engagement with policymakers.
Through our human rights and environmental due diligence approach, and our efforts to source responsibly, collaborate and advocate, we intend to support improved livelihoods in our supply chains.
We aim to achieve progress on healthier choices through product reformulation, an attractive and increased offer of plant-based products, nutrition labelling, collaboration and advocacy.
