Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains Initiative (SASI)

The Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains Initiative (SASI) works towards a sustainable transformation of global agricultural supply chains. Its focus areas include corporate due diligence and sustainable production, livelihoods and living wages, deforestation-free supply chains, gender equality and digitalisation. SASI is an initiative by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

In 2020, the ALDI SÜD Group and ALDI Nord joined the German Retailer Working Group on Living Income and Living Wages. Following a joint approach, the working group supports and promotes the establishment of an income and wage standard that covers the cost of a decent living in global agricultural supply chains. The Working Group on Living Income and Living Wages coordinates and implements activities and projects for participating companies. It focuses on assessing living wage and living income gaps and piloting approaches to address them.

ALDI SÜD Group has committed to contribute to the payment of a living wage for workers in the supply chains of at least 50% of the bananas sold in Germany by 2025 in cooperation with the German Retailer Working Group on Living Income and Living Wages.
