The ALDI SÜD Group has become a member of the Consumer Goods Forum’s (CGF) Forest Positive Coalition (FPC), a CEO-led initiative representing CGF companies who are committed to leveraging collective action and help accelerate systemic efforts to remove deforestation, forest degradation and conversion from key commodity supply chains.
Launched in 2020, the FPC represents a dynamic shift in the industry’s approach to stopping deforestation: by mobilising the leading position of member companies to build multi-stakeholder partnerships and develop effective implementation and engagement strategies, the Coalition brings together diverse stakeholders for sustainable impact.
The ALDI SÜD Group is dedicated to working towards helping eliminate deforestation and the land conversion of natural ecosystems from our critical supply chains. Certification, transparency, and close collaboration with our suppliers are key elements in progressing toward this commitment and supporting the protection of forest areas. The use of independent third-party certification schemes, such as the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, help ensure that our suppliers comply with standards that protect forests and natural ecosystems from conversion, especially in high-risk countries.
Approximately 40% of the world's traded palm oil is produced by smallholder farmers. Many smallholders face difficulties in accessing the global supply chain. This is often due to land rights issues, insufficient finance, poor access to markets and information, and a lack of training.
Together with the international civil society organisation Solidaridad, the ALDI SÜD Group and ALDI Nord have completed a four-year smallholder project in Côte d'Ivoire. The aim was to promote the sustainable cultivation of palm oil in the area and prevent deforestation.
Given that Côte d'Ivoire is a newer area for palm oil cultivation, the ALDI SÜD Group launched an innovative project that focused on paving the way for better practices in the region.
